Our experienced teachers will help you discover your hidden talents and utilise the best of your abilities. All courses are suitable for both Dutch and non-Dutch students. This course is for people who are comfortable with drawing and/or painting, and who want to work on either an idea of their own, or an assignment, still-life, or based on visual material. The teacher will help you choose a personal approach, using techniques of your choice in water colour, acrylic- or oil paint or drawing. The teacher will encourage you to use, give shape to and further develop your imagination. For this course you must bring your own materials. Transparency, spontaneity and clarity, essential in water colour techniques, can be mastered only through patience and a thorough command of the necessary techniques and materials. On this course beginners will discover the surprising effects of water and paint. We will practise the mixing of colours, the different ways of handling a brush, and various techniques of applying paint to paper. Advanced students will be encouraged to develop their own 'signature'. More advanced techniques, like glazing, will also be discussed. On this course the teacher will help you develop basic techniques in drawing through simple assignments. We will be using pencil, charcoal, (Siberian) crayon, ink and/or pastel. The materials will be provided during the lesson, but students may bring materials of their choice as well. Essential concepts, such as composition, perspective, mood, observation, light and shadow will be discussed. Advanced students will be stimulated to push through their own limits. In this course you will develop the skill to draw a model or still life directly from what you see. Assignments will be given to prepare for a model or still life study, working step by step towards a complete drawing in pencil, charcoal, ink and pastel. Line, shape, proportion, light, shadow, volume and white spaces will be discussed and you may expect individual coaching. We will also look at how the human body and still lifes are portrayed in art history. We will study 'the modern master' and how their way of doing things and their vision may inspire us. In this course you can learn and develop drawing skills and ways of looking and drawing from life. We will work with a variety of subject matter such as still lifes, drawing of models and portraits and we will use materials such as pencil, charcoal, ink and pastel. You will spend time on forms of sketching and drawing exercises as well as longer projects in which drawings are completed. Attention will be given to topics such as line, form, proportion, light and shadow. We will also do exercises teaching you to see the model or still life in a more artistic way. This is a course for those who do not have much experience in drawing, or who want to start again after a long period of not doing any. The teacher will help you look better at a subject to improve your line work. You will get to know different drawing materials, like graphite, charcoal, ink and pastel. Materials are included in the course. Each lesson focuses on different aspects, in which various examples from the arts, still lifes and photography will be used. Topics like line, contrast, light, form, composition, colour and perspective will be discussed. It is important that you feel at ease and that you learn to trust your own abilities. Botanical drawing has been popular for centuries and is again drawing increasingly larger wider interest. In this course you will learn about shape and form of plants and flowers. We will always draw real flowers – not from photographs. From preliminary sketches in pen and ink colourful botanical illustrations will emerge. By specific assignments and many historical illustrations you will get to know this special art form. You will discover the amazing beauty of the Strelitzia, tropical fruit and wintry tree buds. An art journal is a diary in which you vent your creativity. From creative lettering to illustration; from working with templates to paste-ups. You will use both drawing and painting materials, but will also work with dried flowers and plants, a mix of fine-liners, colour pencils, rollers, sponges and old stamps. You will receive clear instructions and will collect sayings and texts to be used. This course promises a creative 'awakening', and an experiment that will bring you joy! Materials included. On this course we will look in detail at those visual elements with which you can draw illustrations and cartoons. Also, we will look at other ways of drawing, such as minimalist drawing, miniatures and innovative drawing, in order to develop a range of skills. As to cartoons, we will look at characters, emotions, form, line an alliteration of shapes, the punchline and caricatures in a cartoon. As far as illustrations are concerned, we will study ornamental elements from for instance fairy tales. Each student will be individually coached on their own level. Essential materials, such as fineliners, pencils and crayons are included in the course; which materials students can obtain themselves will be discussed during the first lesson. In deze cursus werk je met traditionele Chinese teken- en schildertechnieken, kalligrafie en stempeltechnieken. Deze technieken worden in China vaak gecombineerd toegepast en vergen een hoge mate van concentratie en volledige penseelbeheersing. Je maakt kennis met de vier 'kostbaarheden': penseel, papier, inktstaaf en inktsteen en ontdekt hun bijzondere eigenschappen. Materiaal is aanwezig maar wel graag zelf witte schoteltjes of bakjes meebrengen om de verf/inkt op te mengen. De cursus op maandag is voor beginners en gevorderden, de cursus op donderdag alleen voor gevorderden.
